Several ambulances and patrol cars arrive at the scene, and shortly after, a woman with her head wrapped in bandages is carried away on a stretcher.

At around 8:05 AM today (October 19), a man in his 60s, surnamed A, swung a weapon at his ex-wife and fled at a multi-family housing unit in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

[Nearby Resident: Ambulances went back and forth a couple of times, and there were dozens of police cars... They said they wiped away a huge amount of blood with bandages.]

The woman's child, who was watching CCTV footage, called the police after losing contact with their mother following A's entry.

The victim was reportedly conscious when found, but unable to communicate.

Two hours after fleeing, A was placed under emergency arrest near the home of his ex-wife's older sister in Jungrang-gu, Seoul.

Based on the statement from the victim's child that "the relationship between the ex-sister-in-law and A was not good," police are investigating whether A intended to commit a crime against the sister-in-law as well.

[A: (Why did you wield the weapon?) ... (Did you plan the crime in advance?) ...]

It was confirmed that three days ago on October 16, the victim visited a police station with an acquaintance to request personal protection.

She had asked for help, expressing anxiety after A suddenly contacted her recently, and received a smart watch, but investigations showed she was unable to press the emergency button as A launched a sudden attack.

Formal criminal booking or emergency measures such as a restraining order against the perpetrator were not implemented. A police official explained, "The victim refused them, saying she did not want to provoke A."

While investigating A regarding the exact motive for the crime, police are also checking the officer who conducted counseling with the victim at the time to see if there were any inadequacies in the protection measures.
