Namadi Joel Jin (Yecheon County Office), a leading figure in South Korean track and turf sprinting, won the men's general division 200m at the National Sports Festival with a new meet record, securing his second gold medal of the event.
Namadi Joel Jin crossed the finish line first with a time of 20.47 seconds in the men's general division 200m final at the 107th National Sports Festival held today at the Gangchanghak Complex Stadium in Seogwipo, claiming the gold medal.
This marks Namadi Joel Jin's second gold medal of the competition, following his victory in the 100m (10.35 seconds) the previous day.
Having secured three titles (100m, 200m, and 400m relay) last year during his debut season in the corporate ranks, Namadi Joel Jin achieved consecutive victories in both individual events.
Notably, Namadi Joel Jin's winning time of 20.47 seconds today sets a new meet record for the men's general division 200m.
The previous record was 20.51 seconds, set by Ko Seung-hwan at the 2024 competition.
The Korean national record for the men's 200m stands at 20.40 seconds, set by Park Tae-geon in June 2018.
Seo Min-jun (Seocheon County Office), who won a bronze medal alongside Namadi Joel Jin and Bewesa Daniel Casama (Ansan City Hall) in the 400m relay at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games last month, finished second in the 200m today with a time of 20.73 seconds, while Lee Jae-sung (Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall) took third place with 21.08 seconds.
Namadi Joel Jin will challenge for his third title in the 400m relay scheduled for the 20th.
Bewesa withdrew from the preliminaries today, following his withdrawal from the 100m the previous day.
Bewesa stated, "I was a bit fatigued after returning from the Asian Games, and my leg condition wasn't good, so I focused entirely on recovery and skipped the individual events. As for the relay, I will need to warm up and check my physical condition to see how things look."
In the women's general division 200m, Kim Seo-yun (Changwon City Hall) claimed the top spot with a time of 23.99 seconds, defeating Kim Joo-ha (Siheung City Hall, 24.07 seconds).
Kim Seo-yun, who finished fourth in the women's 400m at the Asian Games with a national record of 53.38 seconds, won the 400m with a meet record of 54.10 seconds the previous day. She then captured her first-ever gold medal in the 200m at the National Sports Festival, securing her second crown of the event.
