Artificial intelligence developer Anthropic has offered high yields of over 10 percent to private equity firms to raise funds while issuing $18 billion in junior bonds to purchase large quantities of Google's AI chips, known as TPUs, according to the Financial Times.

Anthropic is currently pursuing a $60 billion fundraising campaign. Of that total, $42 billion is set to be covered by senior secured bonds guaranteed by semiconductor company Broadcom, with the remaining $18 billion consisting of junior bonds.

To secure half of this remaining amount, or $9 billion, from private equity giant Blackstone, Anthropic proposed an interest rate exceeding 10 percent.

This is a notably high condition considering that companies with similar credit profiles typically borrow at around 7 percent, and Anthropic itself issued bonds at 8.5 percent four months ago.

Foreign media outlets analyzed that as astronomical sums of money pour into expanding AI infrastructure, investors are demanding significantly higher compensation for risk—known as a risk premium.

Meanwhile, Blackstone reportedly explained to its investment partners that if Anthropic goes public in the future and its credit rating improves, its interest burden will decrease, adding that this transaction presents a rare high-yield investment opportunity.
