Romanian F-16 fighter jets have shot down two drones over the country's territorial waters, Reuters reported on October 18 (local time).
According to foreign media reports, the Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that the drones shot down today are highly likely to be advanced Russian drones flying at speeds comparable to fighter jets.
The downed drones reportedly entered Romania's Black Sea territorial waters one after another at around 3:00 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) the previous day and were flying at a speed of 450 kilometers per hour.
Recently, an increasing number of vessels near the Romanian coast of the Black Sea have been targeted by drone attacks.
On October 15, a chemical tanker caught fire after being hit by a drone in waters about 13 nautical miles southeast of the Romanian coastal city of Sulina.
Also on October 5, a vessel located in Romania's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Black Sea caught fire due to a drone attack, resulting in two fatalities.
