At around 2:28 PM today (October 18), emergency services received a report stating that a person was found lying on the ground with head bleeding at a rice hull charcoal manufacturing plant in Gondeok-myeon, Gimje, North Jeolla Province.
Worker A, in his 40s, suffered severe head injuries and was transported to the hospital in a cardiac arrest state, but ultimately died.
Police believe that A, who had climbed alone onto the ceiling using a ladder while working with charcoal, fell 8 meters down when a translucent roofing panel gave way.
A police official stated, "An analysis of closed-circuit (CC) TV footage from the scene showed no evidence of criminal activity," adding, "We plan to conduct a joint investigation with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency's Serious Accidents Investigation Team to determine whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act applies."
