The government held its first briefing today, vowing to transparently disclose the progress of housing supply. Moving forward, it plans to report to the public on a bi-weekly basis. However, data revealed that housing construction starts in the Seoul metropolitan area have only reached 37 percent of this year's target so far.

Incheon Gyeyang New Town, which is set to see the earliest move-ins among the third-generation new towns.
Comprising a total of 18,000 households, final construction work is in full swing ahead of the first move-ins scheduled for December.
Starting with Incheon Gyeyang, the government plans to accelerate move-ins across third-generation new towns and expand short-term supply by moving residents into 100,000 units of public housing in the Seoul metropolitan area by the end of next year.
However, housing construction starts in the metropolitan area this year are falling far short of their targets.
This year's goal for construction starts is 268,000 units.
As of the second week of October, construction has begun on 99,000 units, lingering at just 37 percent of the target.
The private redevelopment sector, which has a target of 72,000 units, recorded the slowest progress with a construction start rate of 23.6 percent.
The government projected that 218,000 to 235,000 units could begin construction by the end of the year. Even if this is achieved, it is expected to fall between 81 and 88 percent of the target, resulting in a shortfall of up to roughly 50,000 units.
[Kim I-tak / First Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport : The government will closely monitor the implementation status of major projects for the remainder of the period, including public housing, newly built purchased housing, and private redevelopment projects, and make every effort to ensure that planned volumes lead to actual construction starts as much as possible.]
In the fourth quarter of this year, tenant recruitment is scheduled for more than 10,000 units of public sales and 5,000 units of public rental housing.
The government stated that it will expand support for youth monthly rent and public rental housing for newlywed couples, and also establish a digital dashboard to track housing supply statuses.
It also announced plans to brief the public on housing supply conditions every two weeks, with the second briefing scheduled for later this month to disclose specific supply performance by project site.
