The Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju announced on October 16 that it has apprehended and is investigating a man in his 40s, identified as A, on theft charges.
A is accused of stealing around 100 iron drainage covers (valued at 3 million won), weighing approximately 2 tons, installed along roads in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo, across eight occasions between August and September.
Police investigations revealed that A targeted areas without closed-circuit (CC) television cameras during the night.
While investigating reports of the stolen iron covers, police received a tip that a junk shop had recently uploaded a post on a second-hand trading platform offering to sell iron drainage covers.
During the investigation of the junk shop, police confirmed that A had sold the stolen iron covers to the establishment and subsequently arrested A.
