President Lee Jae-myung has appointed Park Dong-il, the current deputy minister for industrial policy at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, as vice minister of the ministry, and Shin Jin-chang, the current secretary general of the Financial Services Commission (FSC), as vice chairman of the commission.

The appointments are seen as a personnel move aimed at ensuring policy continuity, as both vice-ministerial positions were filled through internal promotions.

The new Vice Minister Park, a native of Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, has served within the ministry as director general for materials, parts, and equipment cooperation, director general for nuclear power industry policy, and director general for manufacturing industry policy.

Senior Presidential Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung described Vice Minister Park as "an industrial policy expert who has held key posts, coordinated and planned overall industrial policy, and accumulated extensive hands-on experience in fostering flagship manufacturing sectors." Kang added, "He has steadily proven his capabilities, including successfully leading a public-private joint task force to execute large-scale investment plans in the Chungcheong region."

Kang further stated, "He is expected to swiftly advance policies that will produce tangible results for the public, such as securing an insurmountable 'super gap' in future strategic industries and creating high-quality jobs through manufacturing innovation and a shift toward regionally led industries."

Vice Chairman Shin, who hails from Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province, has worked within the FSC as director general for structural improvement policy, director general of the financial industry bureau, and director general of the financial policy bureau.

Spokesperson Kang introduced him as "an economic bureaucrat with deep insight into financial markets and the financial sector, who demonstrated expertise across all areas—including stabilizing the financial market following the Middle East conflict, providing financial support for low-income citizens and small business owners, and shaping real estate financial policy—driven by outstanding leadership and a sharp on-site perspective."

Kang added, "He is the right person to lead warm, inclusive finance that protects people's livelihoods while completing the transition toward productive finance that revitalizes the economy."
