Gyeonggi Province announced on October 15 that its Special Judicial Police Team conducted an intensive crackdown on 330 suspected locations for illegal activities within the province's greenbelts from September 1 to 18, catching 35 illegal acts across 27 locations.
By category, the violations include 6 cases of unauthorized new construction or expansion of buildings, 21 cases of unauthorized change of building use, 2 cases of converting forests and agricultural land into building sites and unauthorized land modification, and 2 cases of unauthorized stockpiling of scrap metal and stones.
In one case, an individual identified as A was caught using a building (approximately 300 square meters in area) originally permitted as an animal and plant-related facility (greenhouse) as an indoor tennis court without authorization.
Another individual, B, was found to have used land designated as forest as a parking lot without a permit, while C illegally built a warehouse on agricultural land.
Under the Greenbelt Act, individuals who engage in activities such as unauthorized construction or changes in building use, or land modification, can face up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won.
