Director Kim Jee-woon's Hollywood film "The Hole" has confirmed its release for June 2027.
According to U.S. entertainment outlet The Hollywood Reporter on October 14, Orion Pictures, under Amazon MGM Studios, has set the U.S. release date for "The Hole" for June 25.
"The Hole" depicts the story of a successful university professor in his 40s who faces a shocking truth after losing his wife in a sudden accident. It is based on the novel of the same name by author Pyun Hye-young, which won the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Novel. Director Kim Jee-woon is helming the project, with a screenplay written by Christopher Chen.
Theo James, well known to domestic audiences through the "Divergent" series, plays the professor in his 40s. Jung Hoyeon portrays the professor's Korean wife, while Yeom Hye-ran plays his Korean mother-in-law.
Although "The Hole" was made with a Korean director, cast, and crew members, and was largely filmed in South Korea, it is classified as an American film because it was 100% funded by U.S. capital.
Director Kim Jee-woon made his Hollywood debut in 2013 with "The Last Stand", starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it underperformed both critically and commercially. Attention is focused on what kind of results he will achieve in his return to Hollywood after 13 years.
On June 25, the date "The Hole" hits theaters in North America, the "Ocean's Eleven" prequel starring Bradley Cooper is also scheduled for release. While jumping into a massive market, this scheduling can also be interpreted as a sign of confidence in the competitive strength of "The Hole".
