Democratic Party Floor Leader Han Byung-do said today (October 15), addressing Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party, "Instead of just blaming others, he should present responsible alternatives through consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to support a drive to accelerate (housing) supply."

Han stated during a parliamentary audit strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, "Mayor Oh blamed his predecessor once again, claiming that the supply foundation of 440,000 homes (designated as redevelopment zones) had collapsed."

He pointed out, "This is irresponsible rhetoric that evades an incumbent mayor's responsibility for the supply shortage in Seoul."

Regarding the plan to utilize Yongsan Park, toward which Mayor Oh has expressed a negative stance, Han explained, "The returned Yongsan (U.S. military base) site has usable spaces, including existing facility sites, allowing for prompt housing supply while preserving the park's functions and green space."

He added, "We are not proposing to develop the entire site. It is about providing homes where young people and newlyweds can live, while simultaneously enhancing the value of the park."

Han also urged, "The Democratic Party and the Lee Jae-myung administration will place top priority on rapid housing supply and mobilize all available legislative and policy tools. We hope the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the People Power Party will also join forces for the public's housing stability."
