The Incheon District Prosecutors' Office is set to summon and interview a suspect in his 50s who allegedly wielded a weapon at a large commercial complex, injuring eight people.
According to police and other sources, the Incheon Prosecutors' Office plans to interview A, 59, at around 10 a.m. today (the 15th), following the police's request for an arrest warrant yesterday on charges of attempted murder and carrying a weapon in a public place.
The prosecutors' office internal guidelines, titled "Guidelines on Interviewing and Verifying Facts Prior to Requesting Arrest Warrants," stipulate that pre-warrant interviews must be conducted for arrested suspects in cases that draw significant public attention, cases designated by heads of prosecutors' offices at each level, or cases where doubts exist regarding the necessity and reasonableness of an arrest.
Accordingly, the pre-arrest interrogation (warrant substantive examination) for A is scheduled to take place tomorrow afternoon.
An official from the Incheon Prosecutors' Office stated, "This is an interview procedure conducted in accordance with principle."
A is accused of attempting to murder 10 visitors with a weapon around 1:48 p.m. on the 13th at the See&See building, a large commercial complex housing a hypermarket and movie theater in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon.
Among the victims, a 19-year-old woman was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest and regained a heartbeat after emergency surgery, but she remains unconscious in the intensive care unit on life support.
Five other victims are receiving inpatient treatment, while two with minor injuries are receiving outpatient treatment.
The remaining two individuals were found to be uninjured.
During police questioning, A stated, "I had grievances against the hospital where I received treatment, and I was dissatisfied with being investigated by the police following a report from the hospital."
A further claimed, "I committed the crime to draw attention and create news so that my grievances would become known to society."
