Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed on the 14th (local time) that they launched a massive wave of missile and drone attacks targeting state-owned oil company Aramco facilities in Dhahran, eastern Saudi Arabia, and the international airport in the capital, Riyadh.
In a statement issued by their spokesperson, the Houthi rebels stated, "This is part of a retaliatory and deterrent operation against Saudi Arabia's brutal aggression, which has carried out 2,281 airstrikes and missile attacks targeting the capital Sanaa and liberated areas."
The Houthis explained that numerous ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, were mobilized for the attack.
The statement claimed, "We precisely struck and caused fires and destruction at Aramco facilities in Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and Aramco oil refineries."
It further warned, "Operations targeting airports and oil facilities deep within the Saudi mainland will continue over the coming days," adding, "As these facilities have become legitimate targets, international shipping companies, civilians, and workers should immediately evacuate the area."
In addition, the rebels emphasized, "Until Saudi aggression stops and the blockade on Yemen is completely lifted, we will maintain the formula of 'responding to a siege with a siege and escalation with escalation,' targeting the enemy's military build-up."
Earlier, the Saudi Civil Defense Authority issued and then lifted alerts for Riyadh and Al-Kharj, located southeast of Riyadh province.
Residents in Riyadh continued to report hearing loud explosions.
Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition and the Saudi Ministry of Defense, stated on social media platform X, "We intercepted a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi rebels targeting Riyadh."
