Police and military authorities have taken safety measures after what is believed to be a training grenade was found at an elementary school in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
At approximately 2:11 PM today (October 14), students discovered a grenade on a hill behind the parking lot of an elementary school in Yangpyeong and reported it.
The discovered grenade reportedly had its safety pin and ring attached, with a yellow stripe around the middle of its body and the words "For Training" written in Korean.
No casualties were reported.
Upon receiving the report, police and military authorities cordoned off the area and sent all remaining students at the school home.
They also conducted a search operation in the surrounding area for any additional hazardous materials.
The military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team retrieved the grenade and plans to investigate whether it poses a real explosive hazard and the exact circumstances of how it ended up near the school.
