Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies and approach toward North Korea, calling them "actions that weaken alliances."
During a lecture held today (October 14) at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in Jongno District, Seoul, former Vice President Harris said, "We have witnessed the president imposing capricious and punitive tariffs, and there have also been moves to embrace North Korea," adding, "All of these are actions that weaken alliances."
She also criticized President Trump's downsizing of joint South Korea-U.S. military exercises, saying, "I was very disappointed. In fact, the word 'disappointed' is not enough."
"The alignment among China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea is an issue we must pay attention to," she said, emphasizing that "we must strengthen deterrence within the alliance."
She added, "Strengthening the South Korea-U.S. alliance not only benefits the security of South Korea and the Indo-Pacific region, but also helps elevate the international standing of the United States."
