Director Jang Hang-jun's psychological thriller film "Open the Door" is being adapted into a stage play.
The play "Open the Door" depicts what unfolds on the night a man knocks on a door, confronting a truth kept hidden for seven years as long-ignored memories and concealed secrets are revealed. It is based on the 2023 film of the same name directed by Jang Hang-jun. During its theatrical run, the film drew around 19,000 moviegoers nationwide. With "The King's Warden", released this past January, achieving a major box office milestone of 16 million admissions, director Jang Hang-jun now enjoys the pleasure of seeing his earlier work reborn on the theatrical stage.
Kim Sung-kyu, Lee Si-hyung, and Hong Ki-joon have been cast in the role of Moon-seok, who lives carrying secrets of the past. Ahn Woo-yeon, Oh Kyung-joo, and Lee Bong-jun will play Chi-hoon, who returns after seven years to pursue the truth, while Kwak Sun-young and Gong Min-jeung join the cast as Yoon-joo, who opened the secret door, bringing a total of eight actors to the stage.
Moving beyond the film's dialogue- and psychological tension-driven structure, this stage production plans to present different times and spaces on a single stage, offering a fresh sense of immersion.
Director Oh Se-hyeok, who won the Grand Prize at the 2025 Seoul Theater Festival for the play "100 Hours at the Prime Minister's Office", is handling both the adaptation and direction. Contents Hap is producing the play, with BA Entertainment, the production company behind the original film, participating as a co-producer.
"Open the Door" will meet audiences this coming December at YES24 Art One Theater 3 in Daehangno.
