Warm-hearted donations from philanthropic angels are continuing across various parts of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
According to Yongin City, on October 8, an octogenarian resident identified as A, living in Cheoin-gu, visited City Hall despite physical discomfort and donated 21.95 million won in cash.
Tucked between the bundles of cash was a handwritten letter containing personal details about family history—such as her husband working at a coal mine to support the family and raising four children amidst tight financial circumstances—along with the message, "Although we live in difficult economic conditions, now that our children have grown up to become upright members of society, I want to share with neighbors in need."
She also expressed her hope that "the donated funds will be used for lonely elderly residents and children in families who need assistance."
Yongin City visited donor A in person to express gratitude and presented her with a "Shy Sharing Plaque."
The "Shy Badge" is an item created to convey gratitude to "shy donors" who prefer not to disclose their identities.
On October 12, Lee Soon-hee, a 78-year-old caregiver residing in Suji-gu, visited the Pungdeokcheon 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center and delivered 3 million won she earned working as a caregiver this year, saying, "It is not a large sum of money, but please use it for students continuing their studies under difficult circumstances."
Lee, who has continued her donations for four consecutive years, previously donated 10 million won each year from 2023 until last year.
Lee expressed regret, saying, "I am always grateful just for the fact that I can work," while adding, "Because I wasn't able to work as much this year, I am donating a smaller amount than in previous years."
Yongin City plans to use the donations deposited by these individuals to support vulnerable residents within the region through the Community Chest of Korea in Gyeonggi Province.
