Yesterday (October 13) at the parliamentary audit of Gyeonggi Province.
When a conservative opposition lawmaker asked whether she still considers Kim Ji-yong—the nominee for head of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency who has become the flashpoint of conflict within the ruling camp—a "pro-Yoon prosecutor," Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae of the ruling party took direct aim, as if determined.
[Choo Mi-ae / Gyeonggi Governor: "He is not only a pro-Yoon prosecutor, but he is unfit for public office—for that position."]
Although President Lee Jae-myung and ruling party leader Kim Min-seok had publicly urged restraint, Governor Choo did not stop her criticism.
[Choo Mi-ae / Gyeonggi Governor: "I thought it would be a historic mistake if I, as someone who knows about this, were to stay silent."]
Questions and answers also followed over who was targeted by President Lee when he commented on social media that someone is "enjoying luxury at the expense of ordinary taxpayers' money while cutting welfare budgets for the underprivileged."
[Joo Ho-young / People Power Party Lawmaker: "There are points being raised asking whether the President's post on social media was aimed at Governor Choo."]
[Choo Mi-ae / Gyeonggi Governor: "I have never lived a life where I indulge in luxury while harming others, so I do not think it was aimed at me."]
Lawmakers from the People Power Party accused Governor Choo of "abandoning provincial administration to focus on central politics."
[Park Sang-woong / People Power Party Lawmaker: "Haven't the past 100 days been spent casting aside Gyeonggi's provincial management to eye the central political arena?"]
[Choo Mi-ae / Gyeonggi Governor: "I would like to state that there has not been the slightest neglect in provincial administration."]
Lawmakers from the Democratic Party scrutinized Governor Choo's declaration of a fiscal emergency in Gyeonggi Province and her welfare budget cuts.
[Lee Kwang-hee / Democratic Party Lawmaker: "There are criticisms that, rather than prioritizing consultation and consensus, there has been a unilateral, solo run..."]
[Kim Young-bae / Democratic Party Lawmaker: "One of the national tasks is fiscal expansion. The spending-cut supplementary budget carried out by the governor runs contrary to this."]
[Choo Mi-ae / Gyeonggi Governor: "What felt most frustrating upon receiving the public livelihood budget bill was that there was not even a budget for meals for undernourished children."]
When a People Power Party lawmaker asked about nominee Kim Ji-yong's confirmation hearing taking place today, Governor Choo answered that she had been waiting for the hearing and said that if they want to hold it properly, they should summon her as a witness.
