▲ Injured people receive emergency treatment following a stabbing incident at a large commercial facility in Incheon on the 13th.
In response to a recent stabbing incident in Incheon, the police plan to deploy personnel to densely populated areas while stepping up crackdowns on carrying weapons in public places and posting online crime threats.
Kim Jong-chul, Acting Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency, received a briefing on the incident today (the 13th), held an emergency leadership meeting, and subsequently led a video conference with regional police chiefs nationwide at 5:30 p.m.
Acting Commissioner General Kim received an overview of the incident, investigation, and response measures from the head of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, and instructed authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation—including determining the motive—while ensuring full support and protection for victims.
He ordered regional police chiefs across the country to reinforce violent crime prevention efforts by sufficiently deploying police forces centering on heavily crowded areas.
He also emphasized taking an all-out response to curb copycat crimes and public anxiety through preemptive crackdowns on carrying weapons in public spaces and uploading similar online crime threat posts.
Following the meeting, Acting Commissioner General Kim plans to visit the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency and the scene of the incident.
In addition, he plans to hold a leadership meeting later this week to inspect legal and institutional shortcomings in preventing violent crimes and responding to relationship-based crimes, as well as to review improvement measures.
