Regarding the "energy truce agreement" claimed by US President Donald Trump, Russia avoided giving a direct answer on the 12th (local time), stating that "contacts are continuing."
According to Reuters, AFP, and other news outlets, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made the remarks when asked about whether an energy truce had been reached, saying, "As soon as there is anything to share on this matter, we will let you know."
He also did not disclose with whom or in what manner the contacts are continuing.
Regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's proposal that a presidential election could be held if a 60-day truce agreement is reached, Peskov made Russia's rejection clear, stating, "We do not want a truce, we want a long-term peace."
Attention has focused on whether the two sides will actually implement a truce after President Trump claimed on the 11th that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a truce concerning the energy sector.
President Zelenskyy warned on the same day that Russia had attacked Ukraine's gas facilities overnight and that Ukraine would take retaliatory measures if Russia does not agree to a truce.
