At dawn yesterday at an apartment in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, an emergency call was received through 119 reporting that "a child is not breathing."
The infant was transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest but passed away during treatment.
However, bruises were found on the face of the child, who was only two months old. While questioning the parents, police emergency arrested the 40-year-old father, identified as A, on murder charges.
It was found that immediately after his daughter was pronounced dead, Mr. A used his mobile phone to remotely delete a portion of the video footage recorded by the home cam installed in the house from that early morning.
During police questioning, Mr. A partially admitted to the crime.
He reportedly confessed, saying, "I struck the child's face several times," and stated, "I did it because the baby was crying and wouldn't sleep."
Meanwhile, police stated that there had been no prior reports of child abuse or domestic violence before this incident, and that the child's mother was sleeping in another room at the time and was unaware of the situation.
Police requested an autopsy on the infant's body from the National Forensic Service today to check for any additional abuse.
They also plan to conduct a digital forensic investigation to recover the home cam footage deleted by Mr. A.
Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for Mr. A on murder charges as soon as additional questioning is completed today.
