A man in his 20s who murdered his mother-in-law and kidnapped his wife claims it was a crime committed on the spur of the moment. However, the bereaved family members we met told us that the man had hired private investigators to tail the family for weeks.

This is 20-year-old [Note: referring to a man in his 20s] Kim, who is suspected of visiting his wife—with whom he was in the middle of a lawsuit to annul their marriage—murdering her mother, and then kidnapping his wife.
Kim, who was emergency arrested in Gangwon Province yesterday (October 11), reportedly stated during police interrogation that he went to talk to his wife, got angry, and committed the crime impulsively.
However, the bereaved family's stance, met by SBS reporters at the funeral wake, was different.
They claim it was a crime planned weeks in advance.
[Bereaved Family: (While heading toward Gangwon Province,) [Kim] said that he paid 20 million won to a private investigator agency for two weeks, stationed those people all around her sister's house, and checked all their locations.]
Kim was also reportedly told his wife inside the car heading to Gangwon Province that he went there with the intent to harm her family.
[Bereaved Family: ([Kim] said,) 'I made up my mind to kill everyone,' and that he brought a weapon to kill all the family members and only bring [Name] back.]
As a result, the mother-in-law was left helpless.
[Bereaved Family: Without a second thought, he rushed at her with a weapon immediately, the moment he saw her....]
[Bereaved Family: Collapsed on the street... unable to speak, just gasping for breath....]
Kim's father-in-law deeply regretted not being able to go out instead of his mother to meet his daughter coming home from work.
The bereaved family also stated that the marriage registration itself was originally a result of Kim's coercion.
[Bereaved Family: He kept threatening her through gaslighting, saying, 'If you don't [register the marriage], I will kill you,' and she suffered a lot of beatings. He also confined her so she couldn't leave....]
The bereaved family expressed their outrage, saying that stronger preventive measures should have been taken in advance.
[Bereaved Family: These are things that could have been prevented in advance, all of them. But why is it that every time an incident happens... I am truly, truly sick of it.]
Also, contrary to the police's explanation that they re-applied for temporary protection ex officio on the 6th [October 6] after persuading the family, the bereaved family stated that Kim's wife had directly requested the extension herself to the police.
[Bereaved Family: Since we needed to extend the restraining order, every time we applied for an extension, (the police) told us, 'Wait, wait, wait,' so it was filed on October 6....]
The police requested an arrest warrant for Kim today on charges of murder of a lineal ascendant and special confinement.
