Twenty-four South Koreans who entered Nepal on tourist visas have been arrested by local police after participating in a religious program.

According to local online media Ratopati on the 12th, local police recently arrested the 24 South Koreans.

They reportedly entered Nepal on tourist visas and took part in a religious training program at the New Covenant College, a Christian educational institution located in the Morang district of Koshi Province in eastern Nepal.

They arrived in Morang on the 6th and 7th of this month after passing through the capital Kathmandu and Biratnagar in Koshi Province, and were scheduled to stay in Nepal until today.

The Christian educational institution in Nepal visited by the South Koreans is operated with support from a South Korea-based Christian missionary organization, conducting religious research and education.

Local police reportedly detained them on suspicion that some of their activities may have violated the conditions of stay permitted under tourist visas.

In Nepal, foreigners who enter on tourist visas are prohibited from participating in religious education or proselytizing activities.
