▲ A man in his 40s of Chinese nationality, accused of murdering a supermarket owner in her 70s and stealing 700,000 won in cash, enters the Incheon District Court in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, in June for his pre-trial detention hearing (warrant substantive examination).
The life sentence for a man in his 40s who was convicted in the first trial of bludgeoning a supermarket owner to death and robbing her has been finalized.
According to legal circles today (October 12), the life sentence handed down on October 1 against a man in his 40s of Chinese nationality, identified as A, who was indicted and detained on charges of robbery and murder, has been finalized.
After the ruling, A submitted a waiver of the right to appeal to the court, and the prosecution also did not appeal by October 8, the appeal deadline, allowing the first-instance ruling to stand.
A is accused of striking a supermarket owner in her 70s six times with a blunt weapon at around 9:00 p.m. on June 6 at a supermarket in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, killing her, and then fleeing with a gold ring valued at 2 million won and 700,000 won in cash.
The supermarket was a small store selling basic daily necessities, and the owner was minding the shop alone at the time. Investigations revealed that A had been lingering around the supermarket looking for an opportunity starting from an hour before the crime.
It was confirmed that A, who entered South Korea in 2013, had previously been sentenced to prison for fraud in 2015 and subsequently deported.
