It has been revealed that a man in his 20s, identified by his surname Kim, who was arrested in a mountainous area in Gangwon Province after murdering his mother-in-law and abducting his wife, committed the crime just two days before he was scheduled to be questioned by police for domestic violence.

According to reports, in August, while Kim reported to the police asking them to find his wife—with whom he was in the middle of a lawsuit to nullify their marriage—his wife claimed she was a victim of domestic violence. At the time, police located the wife, referred to as A, through Kim's report, but A reportedly asked them not to disclose her whereabouts.

Consequently, police secured statements that assault had also taken place in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, where the two had previously lived, and summoned Kim for questioning, but he did not comply.

In addition, on September 4, police obtained a search warrant for Kim and attempted to execute it about three times, but failed because they could not locate him.

Police had issued temporary measures numbers 1 through 3 against Kim, which included eviction from the victim's residence and a prohibition on approaching within 100 meters. However, those measures expired on September 30, and police had reapplied for the temporary measures on October 6.

However, before a court decision could be made or before the police in-person investigation scheduled for tomorrow, October 13—two days after the crime—could take place, Kim murdered his mother-in-law, ultimately failing to prevent the additional tragedy.

Previously, Kim was accused of stabbing his mother-in-law in her 50s to death on the street in Munjeong-dong, Seoul, yesterday morning, and abducting his wife A, with whom he was in a marriage nullification lawsuit, by forcing her into a vehicle.

Police plan to conduct further investigations into the domestic violence case once the investigation into charges including parricide is concluded.
