The film 'The Assassin(s)' has surpassed 3 million cumulative admissions nationwide 20 days after its release.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing computer network on October 12, 'The Assassin(s)' surpassed 3 million cumulative viewers at around 8:00 a.m. that day. This makes it the fifth South Korean film released in 2026 to reach the 3 million mark.
'The Assassin(s)' attracted 758,587 moviegoers over the course of a week from Monday, October 5 to Sunday, October 11, marking its third week in release, and claimed the number one spot at the overall weekly box office for three consecutive weeks. Notably, the number of viewers in the third week increased by about 90,000 compared to the 667,698 viewers in the second week. The controversy over historical distortion that flared up during the opening week extended into political debates, which instead amplified public interest and translated into actual ticket sales.
As the controversy over historical distortion went beyond the film itself, leading to verbal attacks against the actors and protests outside their homes, an atmosphere of shifting public opinion began to form. Furthermore, with fierce political offensives continuing day after day, some reactions suggest it has paradoxically served as publicity for the film.
The film's production cost is 19 billion won, and its break-even point is approximately 3.7 million viewers. Having successfully surpassed 3 million viewers in just three weeks, attention is now focused on whether 'The Assassin(s)' will exceed its break-even point in the upcoming weekend.
