Actor Ryu Seung-ryong filled the one-hour Actor's House session with his witty and talkative charm.
Stepping up as the featured guest for the Actor's House at the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held at the Culture Hall on the 9th floor of the Shinsegae Centum City branch of the Busan Cinema Center in U-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan on the morning of October 9, Ryu introduced himself in response to the host's remark, "You returned to Busan after receiving a big award yesterday," by saying, "I am Ryu Seung-ryong, who won an unexpected global award after a fierce competition with Gary Oldman."
Ryu drew laughter by joking, "I brought this up because it seems like many people might not know that I won an award."
At the 21st Seoul International Drama Awards held on October 8, Ryu won the Best Actor award in the International Competition category for his role in JTBC's The Dream Life of Mr. Kim, sharing the honor with Anders Baasmo of A Better Man. Among the nominees that day was also renowned actor Gary Oldman, an Academy Award winner.
Having attended the opening ceremony after the film Cattle Run was invited to the Busan International Film Festival, Ryu had stayed in Busan before heading up to Seoul to attend the Seoul International Drama Awards. Following his win, he undertook a tight schedule by traveling back down to Busan to participate in the Actor's House.
Over the course of about an hour, Ryu shared his journey from starting out as a theater actor to starring in 10-million-admit films, his own acting philosophy, and his goals as an actor, all delivered in his signature sincere tone.
