A fishing boat that departed from Incheon's Yeonan Pier hit a reef in waters near Palmi Island and began flooding, but all 22 people on board were safely rescued.
According to the Incheon Coast Guard, a report was received at the Incheon Coast Guard's Inhang substation at 7:43 a.m. today (the 10th), stating that the 9.77-ton fishing boat Vessel A had collided with a reef and was taking on water 3.88 kilometers south of Palmi Island in Yeongjong-gu, Incheon.
Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard swiftly dispatched one helicopter and nine patrol vessels to the scene. Working alongside fire authorities, the Incheon city government, and private fishing boats, they successfully rescued all 22 passengers and crew members.
Ten of them showed symptoms such as bruises, but their health conditions were confirmed to be stable with no major injuries, and no marine pollution occurred.
Jang Dae-woon, chief of the Incheon Coast Guard, urged, "When operating fishing boats, operators must thoroughly check the topography and water depth of surrounding waters and pay special attention to safe navigation," adding, "Please always wear life jackets in preparation for unexpected maritime accidents."
