Operations have been disrupted as Ukraine has attacked the data center of the AI and tech company often referred to as the "Russian Google" for a second consecutive day.
According to Reuters, AP, and other foreign media outlets on the 9th local time, a data center belonging to the IT company Yandex in Russia's Kaluga region was struck by a Ukrainian attack and halted operations.
This marks the second consecutive day of attacks, following the previous day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed the attack on social media that day, stating, "The Ukrainian military attacked the data center."
It is reported that two of Yandex's three supercomputers used for developing AI models are installed at this location.
Yandex stated that it is assessing the damage from the attack and that it is still difficult to confirm whether the equipment can be restored.
Immediately following the attack, Yandex shares plummeted 3.75% on the Moscow Exchange.
The Ukrainian military also announced that it had struck oil refineries in Omsk and Ukhta, Russia.
Three missile production-related facilities in Russia's Tver region and other areas were also targeted.
This attack appears to be a counterattack following large-scale offensives by Russia that continued through the previous day.
From October 7 to 8, Russian attacks mobilizing ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones caused damage across Ukraine, including collapsed apartment buildings and exploding city buses, leaving around 50 civilians dead.
