Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee Soo-young stated today (October 7) regarding next year's budget for "win-win (public) delivery applications," saying, "We are currently gathering ideas on how to restructure the coupon budget."
In response to a point raised by Representative Huh Sung-mu of the Democratic Party of Korea during the parliamentary audit by the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee at the National Assembly that 97 percent (120 billion won) of the total budget is skewed toward discount coupons, Minister Lee replied, "I completely agree with the various issues raised regarding public delivery apps."
She explained, "In particular, the structure where private large-scale delivery apps offer higher incentives as merchants or users adopt their delivery services is reinforcing exclusive dependency." She added, "Because of this, it appears that riders (delivery workers) from the three major delivery platforms (Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats, Yogiyo) have become reluctant to handle deliveries for public apps."
She then stated, "We will lay out various options, including rider incentives, and review them comprehensively."
