Actor Kim Woobin (37) gifted perfume bought with his own money to a longtime fan who helped him land a commercial modeling opportunity.
The manager of a social media fan account dedicated to Kim Woobin posted a video on October 6, saying, "Thanks to all the love you gave, I received such a huge gift from Woobin. At first, I hesitated a lot about whether to post this video. I didn't do anything deserving of this, but Woobin's heart was so touching and sweet that I wanted to share it."
The heartwarming gesture traces back to a story from a year ago. At a fan signing event in September last year, the fan asked Kim Woobin to recommend a perfume that would suit her. In response, Kim Woobin took out a bottle of perfume he was personally using and handed it to her, saying, "This is a gift for you, noona. Take it." Even though the fan repeatedly declined, Kim Woobin insisted and placed the perfume directly into her hands.
The moment became a hot topic online after the fan shared a video of the interaction. In the newly posted video, the fan reflected on that time, noting that it was the first time a story about her had appeared in the news, and acquaintances even reached out asking, "Isn't that you?" Since then, the product became widely known as "Kim Woobin's perfume," and Kim Woobin was recently selected as the official brand model.
Kim Woobin did not forget the special connection. The new video showed Kim Woobin spotting fans waiting for him on his way home from work. After stepping out of his car and signing autographs, he said, "I bought a gift to give to you, noona," and headed toward his car trunk. What he pulled out of the trunk was perfume he had purchased himself after visiting the store in person this past September. The retail price is known to be in the mid-100,000 won range or higher.
Handing over a shopping bag, Kim Woobin said, "I was able to shoot a commercial thanks to you, so I'm so grateful. I kept carrying it around in my car wondering when I'd run into you." Moreover, he did not prepare a gift only for that one fan. He repeatedly emphasized, "I bought quite a few because I didn't know how many people there would be. I thought it might feel awkward if you were the only one receiving one, and I wanted to give them to the other fans too. This isn't sponsored—I bought them myself. Don't misunderstand."
Ever since his debut, Kim Woobin has continued to spread positive influence by supporting underprivileged youth, pediatric cancer patients, and marginalized communities, as well as contributing whenever disaster strikes. He is set to return to television screens with tvN's new weekend drama "Gift," which premieres on December 5.
