"The hit-and-run driver has been caught."
The father of a 9-year-old child who had previously posted online asking for witnesses after a hit-and-run driver struck his child and fled has announced that the suspects have finally been apprehended.
The father later shared the details of the incident.
It previously took place on September 30.
A post seeking witnesses to a hit-and-run accident that occurred in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, was uploaded to an online community.
At the time, the father wrote that his daughter suffered broken teeth and was bleeding profusely in the accident, but a man and a woman, who appeared to be foreigners, simply fled the scene.
Upon police investigation, the driver of the motorcycle was identified as a man in his 30s of Thai nationality who was residing in the country illegally.
The man, who was already in custody on drug charges, confessed to the hit-and-run after police questioning.
Meanwhile, the Thai woman who was a passenger also turned herself in to the police.
The child's father bowed his head in gratitude, expressing thanks for the netizens' interest, although he noted that recovering damages would be difficult because the motorcycle was uninsured.
He added that as he pondered how to repay the kindness, he concluded that making a donation was the only way, and shared that he donated snacks, drinks, and sushi to an orphanage in Gwangju.
Given that he must have gone through a great deal of emotional distress himself, it is truly heartwarming that he even thought of making a donation.
