Following a ticket frenzy since its opening last year, 3,000 more seats will be added to Hanwha Life Eagles Park, the home stadium of the professional baseball team Hanwha Eagles.
The Daejeon Metropolitan City government and the Hanwha club signed an investment agreement to build 3,000 additional seats behind the Monster Wall, the high outfield wall in right field at Hanwha Life Eagles Park.
Under the plan, Daejeon City will shoulder 75 percent of the 13 billion won construction cost, while the Hanwha club will cover the remaining 25 percent. Construction is scheduled to begin in October next year and be completed in March 2028.
Hanwha Life Eagles Park currently holds 17,000 seats. In its opening year last year, Hanwha reached the Korean Series for the first time in 19 years, recording sellouts in 62 games and a seat occupancy rate of 99.3 percent.
This year, sellout crowds continued until Hanwha dropped to the lower ranks, prompting strong demands from Hanwha fans suffering from the ticket shortages for an expansion of the seating capacity.
