Regarding the issue of re-nominating a Supreme Court justice, Cheong Wa Dae stated, "We hope the Chief Justice will respect the recommendations of the recommendation committee and proceed with the re-nomination process as swiftly as possible so that the public's right to trial is not infringed upon."
This reaffirms Cheong Wa Dae's existing position, coming as Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae asserted today (October 6) during a parliamentary audit that "the National Assembly interfering with the Chief Justice's nomination is an unconstitutional measure that goes against the separation of powers among state institutions and the independence of the judiciary as explicitly stipulated in the Constitution."
During a briefing, when asked, "Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae claimed at the parliamentary audit that 'it is unconstitutional for the National Assembly to intervene in the nomination'—does Cheong Wa Dae have a position on this?", Cheong Wa Dae Chief Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated, "Cheong Wa Dae's position remains unchanged from before," delivering the remarks.
