International Skating Union (ISU) President Kim Jae-yeol has been elected as the new president of the Winter Olympic Federations (WOF), the association representing major Winter Olympic sports.
The ISU announced that "President Kim Jae-yeol was elected to succeed current President Ivo Ferriani at the WOF meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland," adding, "His passion and dedication to winter sports, as well as his commitment to strengthening cooperation among international sports federations, were widely recognized."
President Kim stated, "I will unite with WOF members to elevate the status of winter sports. It is an honor to serve as WOF president, and I will work hard to ensure it benefits everyone."
Kim previously served as president of the Korea Skating Union, vice president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, and an ISU council member, before being elected in 2022 as the first non-European president in ISU history.
He subsequently earned high praise for driving marketing innovations and organizational reforms, and was elected as an International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board member at the 145th IOC Session in February.
Having succeeded in his re-election as ISU president in June, Kim has now taken the helm of the umbrella organization encompassing major international winter Olympic federations by being elected WOF president.
The WOF comprises international federations for the seven Winter Olympic sports: skating, skiing, luge, ice hockey, curling, bobsleigh and skeleton, and biathlon.
