Seo Chae-hyun (22, Seoul City Hall / The North Face), who captured the first-ever Asian Games gold medal for South Korean women's sport climbing, will carry the South Korean flag at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games held today (the 4th).
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee announced that Seo will serve as the flag bearer for the South Korean delegation at the closing ceremony, which takes place at 6 p.m. today at the Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium in Nagoya, Japan.
Seo stepped onto the podium twice during this tournament, collecting a gold medal in her signature lead event and a bronze medal in bouldering.
On the 1st, she scored 70 points in the women's bouldering final to finish third and claim the bronze medal.
In the women's lead final held yesterday (the 3rd), she was the only one among the eight competing athletes to successfully complete the route, defeating her rival Ai Mori of Japan to claim the top spot.
This marks South Korea's first Asian Games gold medal in sport climbing in eight years, following Cheon Jong-won's victory in the men's combine at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, and makes Seo the first female athlete from the country to achieve the feat.
Having previously won a silver medal in the combine (bouldering and lead) at the 2022 Hangzhou Games held in 2023, Seo added a gold and a bronze to her tally at this tournament, bringing her career total of Asian Games medals to three.
