Nearly 330 million people were recorded on the move in China yesterday (Oct. 1), the first day of the National Day holiday.

According to China's Ministry of Transport today (Oct. 2), the number of cross-regional passenger trips nationwide reached 329.495 million the previous day, marking a 1.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.

By mode of transport, railway passenger trips rose 9% from a year earlier to 25.204 million.

Road trips accounted for the vast majority of total travel at 300.36 million, but decreased by 2.8% compared to the same period last year.

Waterway passenger trips increased by 7.2% to 1.416 million, while air passenger trips grew 0.5% over the same period to 2.515 million.

The Ministry of Transport projected that cross-regional travel on today (Oct. 2), the second day of the holiday, would reach 308.19 million.

This is expected to be a 2.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

Previously, Chinese authorities forecasted that cross-regional travel during the current National Day holiday period, which runs through October 7, would reach a total of 2.13 billion trips.
