President Lee Jae-myung has approved the confirmation hearing request for Kim Ji-yong, nominee to head the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency.
Senior Presidential Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced via a press notice today (October 2) that President Lee approved the confirmation hearing request for nominee Kim yesterday (October 1).
The presidential office stated yesterday that suspicions raised by some within the ruling party regarding the nominee do not warrant depriving him of the opportunity to clarify himself through a confirmation hearing, adding, "We plan to send the confirmation hearing request for nominee Kim to the National Assembly in the near future."
In a briefing yesterday, Seong Gi-hong, senior presidential secretary for public communication, remarked, "It is time to stop unnecessary and wasteful debates that cause confusion in state affairs and focus on the concrete tasks that our criminal justice system must move forward with."
