South Korean national football team striker Oh Hyeon-gyu (Beşiktaş) said regarding his partnership with two-top partner Son Heung-min (LAFC), "I think we will gel even better the more we play together."
Oh made the remarks during a press conference held at the Ulsan Stadium on the 1st, one day ahead of the match against Venezuela.
He started alongside Son as a two-top forward in a 4-4-2 formation in both the Ecuador and Uruguay matches.
In the match against Ecuador, Oh and Son scored the opening and additional goals in turn, laying the stepping stone for a 3-0 resounding victory.
Oh's goal came from a mid-range shot, while Son's goal was scored directly from a free kick.
Both players were virtually quiet in the match against Uruguay.
Late in the second half, with South Korea trailing 0-4, Lee Kang-in's cross hit the back of the net via Son. Although it was recorded as Son's goal, Son himself said, "I don't think I felt it touch," adding, "I don't think it's my goal."
When asked about his impressions of playing as a two-top forward alongside Son for two consecutive matches, Oh responded, "We clearly know what each other needs to do on the pitch. I think playing in the matches helps us better understand how [Son] Heung-min and I can prepare and help each other."
He continued, "As we play, we increasingly understand how we can help each other create chances and score goals," and added, "I think we will work better together the more we play."
South Korea suffered a heavy 1-4 defeat against Uruguay, unable to put up much of a fight.
Oh said, "Because of the result where we failed to win, the players need to take more responsibility and individually prepare more so that we can win," adding, "I think Venezuela is a good team, but if we follow the direction the head coach wants well, we will definitely be able to win."
The friendly match between South Korea and Venezuela will be held at 8:00 PM on the 2nd at the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium.
