▲ Overview of the AI-based wild boar monitoring program
The National Institute of Biological Resources announced that it has developed an artificial intelligence-based monitoring program that immediately alerts authorities when wild boars appear in urban areas.
The program is designed so that an AI model, which has learned from about 12,000 photos of wild boars, analyzes CCTV footage to detect wild boars and notify local government officials.
The institute plans to provide the program for use by local governments around Bukhansan Mountain in Seoul starting next month.
Hundreds of cases of wild boars appearing in urban areas occur every year.
The number of times fire authorities were dispatched due to wild boar sightings in Seoul reached an annual average of 577 over the past three years, with 649 cases in 2023, 589 cases in 2024, and 494 cases in 2025.
