An unwed mother who placed a newborn she gave birth to in a bag and abandoned it in an apartment flowerbed, causing the baby's death, has been apprehended by police.
The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced today (September 30) that it has emergency-arrested and is currently questioning a woman in her 20s, identified as A.
A is accused of putting her recently born infant into a bag and abandoning it in a flowerbed near the management office of an apartment complex in Ansan-dong, Yeosu, where she lives.
After receiving a report at around 9:28 a.m. today about a bag containing a newborn, police identified A and apprehended her.
At the time of discovery, the newborn was already dead with its umbilical cord still attached, and parts of the body were reportedly showing signs of decomposition.
A, an unwed mother, reportedly admitted to the crime during police questioning, stating that she "abandoned the baby after giving birth by putting it in a bag."
Police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause and time of the newborn's death, and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.
