The Atlanta Braves and the Chicago White Sox both secured victories in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series (WCS, best-of-three), the opening stage of the Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason.
Atlanta, seeded third in the postseason as the National League (NL) East champion, defeated the sixth-seeded Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in Game 1 of the NLWCS on the 30th (KST) at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, powered by Austin Riley's go-ahead three-run home run in the 8th inning.
The Wild Card Series is played for three consecutive days at the home stadium of the higher seed.
Game 2 between the two teams will take place at the same venue at 3:00 AM on October 1.
Atlanta had a strong edge over its NL East division rival Philadelphia with a 9-4 record in the regular season this year.
Korean infielder Kim Ha-seong of Atlanta started as the ninth-hitter and shortstop, going hitless in two at-bats before being substituted for a pinch hitter.
In Game 1 of the American League (AL) Wild Card Series, the sixth-seeded Chicago White Sox defeated the third-seeded Houston Astros 6-3 in an away game held at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
Japanese hitter Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox started as the cleanup hitter and first baseman. Although he did not hit a home run, he contributed to the victory by going 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly RBI, drawing one walk, and scoring two runs.
Game 2 between these two teams will also continue at the same venue at 6:00 AM on October 1.
