Gwangju Nambu Police Station is investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, under charges of violating the Road Traffic Act for driving heavily intoxicated with a lit charcoal briquette inside his vehicle.
A is suspected of driving an acquaintance's vehicle while under the influence on a back road in a residential area in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, at around 2:10 a.m. today (September 29), consecutively crashing into the sides of nine parked cars.
Police investigations revealed that A's blood alcohol concentration at the time was well above the legal limit for license revocation.
Responding to a report from a resident, police found A unconscious inside the car and also confirmed evidence that a charcoal briquette had been burned.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances, believing that A was driving while in a dazed state from consuming alcohol and inhaling smoke.
