Regarding the recent landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that severely injured three South Korean service members, President Lee Jae-myung said that the truth will be transparently uncovered through a swift and thorough investigation in cooperation with the United Nations Command (UNC), and that necessary measures will be taken accordingly.
Presiding over the 42nd Cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae today (September 29), President Lee stated, "Last week, three soldiers were seriously injured in a landmine incident near the Military Demarcation Line," adding, "I offer my deepest comfort to the injured soldiers and their families and wish them a swift recovery."
He emphasized, "Based on close cooperation with the UNC, the truth of the incident must be transparently revealed through a swift and thorough investigation."
He then pledged, "We will take necessary measures in accordance with the truth (revealed by the investigation)."
Addressing the conservative opposition party, which has raised allegations of delays and a cover-up in the investigation into the accident, President Lee also pointed out, "There can be no ruling or opposition party when it comes to national security," adding, "I hope that no one jeopardizes national security by fueling groundless conspiracy theories, especially regarding this matter."
