Blue House: "Landmine Probe Based on Military Judgment, Unrelated to President's UN Speech"

The Blue House stated regarding the military's on-site investigation into the suspected landmine explosion inside the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the western front that "it was planned and decided purely based on military judgment by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the United Nations Command, taking into account recommendations from commanders on the ground."

A Blue House official explained today (September 29), "The military's on-site investigation into this landmine incident is completely unrelated to the President's UN speech."

Regarding the explosion that occurred on September 21, the South Korean military and the UN Command launched an on-site investigation on September 27, six days after the incident.

Furthermore, they announced yesterday (September 28) that the cause of the explosion is judged highly likely to be a North Korean military landmine, adding that corresponding measures would be taken if it is definitively determined to be a mine laid by North Korea.

In connection with this, conservative opposition parties, including the People Power Party, have claimed that the on-site investigation was delayed out of concern that it might undermine the persuasiveness of President Lee Jae-myung's UN address advocating for the "easing of sanctions against North Korea."

Addressing these claims, a senior Blue House official pushed back on September 24, stating, "There cannot be even the slightest hidden motive, concealment, or cover-up whatsoever."
