A building used as the residence of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Ukraine has reportedly suffered damage due to a Russian drone attack targeting the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
According to a social media post by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the 28th (local time), the building used as the Saudi ambassador's residence was damaged after Kyiv was targeted by a Russian drone attack the previous day.
President Zelenskyy condemned Russia for committing acts of terror targeting civilian infrastructure, stating, "Since yesterday, Russia has used 277 attack drones of various types, 155 of which were jet-powered."
The number of jet-powered drones launched by Russia has shown a sharp upward trend, rising from 350 in June of this year to 1,500 in July, and 2,800 in August.
Equipped with small Chinese-made jet engines for aircraft, jet-powered drones are capable of flying at an altitude of 5 km and at speeds of 400 to 600 km/h.
The shoot-down rate for jet-powered drones announced by the Ukrainian military authorities stands at around 60 percent.
This falls well below the 90 percent interception rate of conventional drones.
Russian attacks continued into the night.
According to Reuters and other outlets, Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv was struck by Russian guided air bombs overnight, injuring 28 people, including 9 children.
In Kyiv, 2 people were killed, with one of them confirmed to be a citizen of Azerbaijan.
A gas station in the Kyiv region was attacked once again.
Russia has recently been focusing its attacks on gas stations in Ukraine, with approximately 300 locations targeted over the past few months.
In the Black Sea port city of Odesa, a vessel flying the flag of Palau was attacked, and infrastructure was destroyed in areas such as Zaporizhzhia.
Despite U.S. mediation efforts for an energy truce, Russia and Ukraine have failed to reach an agreement and continue to exchange attacks.
