Yang Jong-ta, the head of the Incheon Coast Guard, was found dead at his official residence, prompting a police investigation.
According to the Incheon Seobu Police Station and the Incheon Coast Guard, an emergency call was made to 112 at around 9:05 a.m. today (September 28) reporting that Chief Yang was not breathing at an apartment in Cheongna-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon.
Coast guard officials visited his official residence after he failed to show up for work today, and they found him collapsed and called for help, according to authorities.
Police confirmed that Chief Yang was already deceased when they arrived at the scene.
Police are considering the possibility of death due to an underlying medical condition such as a myocardial infarction, and plan to decide whether to conduct an autopsy.
A police official stated, "There are no signs of foul play confirmed so far."
