The group BTS has won Song of the Year, a top honor at the U.S. MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs). The winning track is "SWIM," the lead single from BTS's 5th full-length album "ARIRANG," released on March 20.
At the 2026 MTV VMAs held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 27 (local time), BTS received Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for "SWIM." They also won Best Group, taking home a total of three awards.
The nominees for Song of the Year included seven tracks: "SWIM," "Choosin' Texas" by Ella Langley, "Golden" by HUNTR/X, "Bring Your Love" by Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter, "Man I Need" by Olivia Dean, "Stateside + Zara Larsson" by PinkPantheress, and "Where Is My Husband!" by Rei. In the Best K-Pop category, they competed against BLACKPINK's "Jump," CORTIS's "Red Red," KATSEYE's "Pinky Up," LE SSERAFIM's "Spaghetti (feat. j-hope)," and LISA's "Dream."
In 2021, BTS became the first Korean act to be nominated for Song of the Year at the MTV VMAs with "Dynamite," though they did not win. Last year, BLACKPINK's Rosé became the first K-pop artist to win the category with "APT." (collaborating with Bruno Mars), and with BTS taking the honor this year, K-pop has won the award for two consecutive years.
Best Group is a category BTS won for four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022, holding the record for the most wins in this category. With this latest win, they have lifted the trophy for the fifth time overall.
After completing their military service, all seven members of BTS released their 5th full-length album "ARIRANG" on March 20 and are currently on their world tour, "BTS WORLD TOUR 'ARIRANG.'" The tour began in Goyang and is scheduled to continue through next year, covering Tokyo, North America, Europe, South America, and Asia.
