People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok strongly criticized the film "The Assassin(s)," which was released over the Chuseok holiday, asserting that insulting former President Park Chung-hee cannot be considered "freedom of expression."
On his social media today (September 28), Jang wrote, "The movie 'The Assassin' was released over the Chuseok holiday," adding, "It is an utterly absurd storyline alleging that President Park Chung-hee was behind the shooting of First Lady Yuk Young-soo."
He continued, sharing that "some are even saying it is on par with a remake of the North Korean propaganda film 'Nation and Destiny.'"
Jang pointed out, "During former President Park Geun-hye's visit to North Korea in 2002, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il personally apologized for the assassination of First Lady Yuk Young-soo." He added, "Yet leftists produce movies like this and call it 'freedom of expression.'"
He then questioned, "If you touch President Roh Moo-hyun, a wave of criminal complaints follows. But insulting President Park Chung-hee is 'freedom of expression.' Is freedom of expression the exclusive domain of the left?"
