A man in his 40s has been arrested by police after allegedly threatening pedestrians with a weapon near Hangang Park, which was crowded with people on the final day of the holiday.
The Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station announced that they apprehended a man in his 40s, referred to as A, around 3:45 PM today (September 27) near Yanghwa Hangang Park on charges of carrying a weapon in a public place.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
According to reports, as A shouted while holding a weapon on the street, pedestrians evacuated to a nearby cafe.
A then attempted to enter the cafe with the weapon, but the cafe owner locked the door and prevented him from getting inside, preventing any damage or injuries.
Police are currently investigating the motive and circumstances behind the crime and plan to review whether to apply for an arrest warrant for A.
